Monitoring - Additional Resources

Well Performance

Rudimentary well performance concepts are summarized. Many of the monitoring methods that are used require a basic understanding of accepted theoretical concepts for production and for injection. Even if you use software for your analyses, it can be important to understand some of the underlying concepts.

Friction

Almost any interpretation that you will need to do will involve using formation face pressure - not just bottomhole pressure; formation face pressure. More often than not, you will only have surface information. The Wellbore Hydraulics routine in the PWRI Toolbox has been developed to provide engineering estimates of formation face pressure. To convert from surface readings, you will have to account for hydrostatic head, frictional losses in the wellbore and supplementary frictional components in a particular completion. These concepts are summarized.
